Kitchen Counters get a face lift

The 1990's color counter tops are gone . When I picked these counter tops in 1996 I thought they would be perfect, how time and your taste changes threw the years. When we first moved here every thing was country all the ruffles on curtains , placemats, chairpad etc.

But as the years have flew by I find myself trying to decorate more primitive and blue counter tops were not in my mind as being very primitive. I have priced new counter tops several times but the $$ was always more than we wanted to spend just because my taste changed. I had read about painting countertops but thought there is no way that would work.
Then I read about Caromal Colours in Country Living Magazine paint that adheres to almost anything still I was thinking I could really mess up so I was not totally convinced .
Well just when I thought I would have to live with my color choice forever I found Karen at Catskill Mountain Prims picture trail and she used the Caromal Colours textured peppercorn to paint her peach counter tops and that was all I needed to be convinced what a change. I order the paint so I was committed to doing it now. Then the fun part bringing it up in conversation several times with the husband and he would always say if you mess up you have to live with it. He was not a easy sell so I waiting till he was gone to work on a Saturday and started after he left the first coat I almost cried thinking I really messed up. Thinking to myself my old blue counter tops at this point would have been better. It was to late by then I had to keep going and I have to tell you I am so glad I did we love them even my husband loves them and all of the work paid off. I used Caromal Colours textured peppercorn two coats and three coats of Minwax semi-gloss water base polycrylic make sure to let dry two hours between each coat.
This has taken our kitchen in a whole new era now if I can convince the husband I need bead board as a back splash.
